About Us

Welcome to Bowstones, established in 1946. Breeders of Labrador Retrievers for the show ring or as much loved family pets

I have been a Kennel Club Member since 1988; am an International Labrador judge and judged Labradors at Crufts in 2014; and I have been show architect and co organiser of 4 Uk ch shows - City of Birmingham, The National, LKA and WELKS.

Since 1998, I have written the weekly Labrador Breed Notes column in the  Our Dogs magazine, I also write books on dogs including  "An Owners Guide- All You Need to know about your Labrador Retriever" published 2010. I co-edited Pedigree Labradors of the United Kingdom 2003 and 2007 and contributed to the Best of Breed book series on the Labrador Retriever & The Labrador Retriever in the dog expert series.

There have been 17 champions in three breeds carrying the Bowstones affix - Labradors, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Shih Tzus.

I now concentrate solely on Labradors.

My dogs and bitches live in the house or in kennels but all spend time indoors with me and enjoy “helping” in our beautiful garden. Each day they enjoy fresh air and freedom, galloping around the fields of the glorious Herefordshire countryside, which surrounds my home.

I breed an occasional litter of top quality pups for the show ring from fully health tested parents.

From the same carefully, well bred litter, pet puppies are selected to become greatly admired and much-loved family pets for discerning owners. Once a Bowstones owner, always a Bowstones owner; many owners have returned time and again for their “next” Bowstones generation.

Bowstones Labradors are for those who want an intelligent good looking Labrador displaying correct breed type and friendly, happy temperament.

Maturing slowly and correctly, Bowstones Labradors are known to retain their traditional looks throughout their long healthy lives, which can be over 16 years.

A Bowstones Labrador really is for life, not a whim.
